Rocky Mountain Testing Solutions

RMTS Begins Operations

The Rocky Mountain Testing Solutions center (RMTS) started operations November 17, 2005 with a grand opening and ribbon cutting in Roy, Utah. RMTS is a joint venture between Setpoint, a manufacturer of award-winning automated equipment solutions for the last 13 years, and the Manufacturing Extension Partnership of Utah (MEP-Utah; a division of WestCAMP Inc.) that has served Utah manufacturers for the past decade. Setpoint, in concert with The Governor's Office of Economic Development (GOED) conducted a gap analysis in the Utah manufacturing sector and found that major manufacturers were required to send their products out of state to get "Mil. Spec. testing." This level of testing is a widely accepted method for independent product and packaging certification for high technology products. As a result of this GOED research, Setpoint and MEP-Utah have stepped up to the challenge and formed Rocky Mountain Testing Solutions to save time and money for Utah manufacturers.

Testing Capabilities

Rocky Mountain Testing Solutions (, will have the capability to perform random vibration testing, dynamic shock testing, temperature/humidity testing, altitude testing, thermal shock testing, transportation vibration testing, drop and compression testing, and cycle/fatigue testing. With certifications to include ISO-9000, ISO-17025, Mil-Std-45208 and Mil-Std-810F, Rocky Mountain Testing Solutions is poised to service the Rocky Mountain region with this critical capability.

Dr. Greg Jones, the State Science Advisor and Economic Cluster's Director at the Governor's Office of Economic Development, is particularly excited about the creation of RMTS in Utah because of the potential impact it will have on the wide range of business sectors in which the GOED is working. "Setpoint's decision to move in the direction of offering Mil. Spec. testing through RMTS is an excellent example of a Utah company growing in a very proactive fashion that in turn brings value to other Utah companies and strengthens the overall business environment in Utah," he said.

MEP Utah Support

Also very supportive of the new company is the Manufacturing Extension Partnership of Utah (MEP-Utah), a nonprofit organization whose mission is to raise the competitiveness, performance and profitability of Utah's manufacturers. The MEP has worked with over 1,400 Utah manufacturers during the past 10 years. The MEP Executive Director Dave Sorensen expressed his excitement about RMTS opening in Utah, "The MEP is pleased to support this needed new resource. The MEP will assist RMTS by seeking equipment donations, which will help reduce the facility's capital equipment cost. Utah's medium and small manufacturers will specifically benefit by having access to a local, cost effective resource like RMTS."
